Chronic Pain Management

Our Aim
To assist clients in improving their quality of life through an educative process utilising cognitive and behavioural strategies designed to enhance coping mechanisms and increasing tolerance to pain.
The Program
Connexions's Chronic Pain Management Service focuses on a blend of
- education
- practical experience
- individual counselling and
- group activities
Research has shown that the most effective method of chronic pain management is a multi-disciplinary approach. Therefore Connexions's CPMS integrates individuals from a range of professional specialities including:
- Psychology
- Occupational Rehabilitation
- Exercise Physiology
- Physiotherapy
- Medicine
Who is Appropriate for Referral?
The following offers a criteria for referral for the CPMP:
- Continuous pain sustained for longer than 3 months
- No major psychiatric disorders
- Physically able to cope with the program
- Motivation to enter into the program
To ensure each person's suitability, an initial assessment is conducted, which may include:
- Functional Capacity Assessement
- Physical Fitness Assessment
- Psychological Assessment
Each participant needs to be referred to the progam. This can be made by either their Doctor, Rehabilitation Provider, Insurer or other health professional. Find out more about referrals here.
