Organisational Psychology
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a free, professional, confidential counselling service for you, your immediate family and members of your household - paid for by your employer. Normally this is up to 4 sessions per year. The focus of the EAP is on early intervention and addressing minor issues before they develop into major ones.
What types of problems do we deal with on the EAP?
| Conflict and tension | Pressure and stress |
| Drug and Alcohol problems | Child and Family problems |
| Work pressure problems | Career Counselling |
| Separation or Divorce | Relationship Difficulties |
| Personal Trauma | Grief and bereavement |
| Health and Lifestyle issues | Gambling and Addictions |
| Financial/Legal referrals | Anxiety and Depression |
How can the EAP help you?
The EAP is about short-term, solution focused counselling. The counselling discussion is informal, friendly and focused on your needs. It can be face to face or over the phone, whichever is more convenient for you.
Counselling can help you to:
- Clarify a problem
- Identify options and
- Develop plans to approach difficult issues in a constructive manner.
After counselling, your EAP counsellor may suggest that other further assistance may be useful. If you choose to take up a referral outside of the EAP, you are responsible for any costs. Where possible referral is made to a service that is free or within your capacity to pay.
